Hi, I’m Kate — the founder and the nose behind Verba. I spent fifteen years living inside the beauty industry.
Not observing it — but fully immersed in it.
Beauty studios, backstage spaces, professional environments;
millions of cosmetic brands across face, body, hair and beyond;
thousands of exhibitions, masterclasses, private launches, product demos.
Endless samples, rare formulas, unexpected textures.
I saw the beauty world truthfully, deeply, from every angle.
And through all of it, one thing always mattered most to me:
the scent.
I identified creams, serums, balms, even lipsticks
by how they smelled —
sometimes pleasant, sometimes strange, sometimes beautifully unexpected.
Those moments of “I didn’t expect this scent here”
became my curiosity, my fascination, my passion.
I studied fragrance history,
learned who creates scents for cosmetic brands,
explored how accords and structures are built in laboratories,
and discovered something essential:
Scent isn’t a detail.
It’s a universe of its own — emotional, architectural, complex, alive.
A nose that grew with me
I had an unusually strong sense of smell since childhood.
I noticed things others didn’t — perfume trails, spices in the air,
the scent of fabrics, materials, even the mood of a room.I thought everyone experienced the world this way.
But noses grow.
They train themselves like a muscle.
Over decades, mine became sharper, deeper, wiser —
storing millions of notes, comparing, memorizing, recognizing instantly.
And when you move between countries,
your senses expand again.
New people, new air, new architecture shift your internal palette.
Associations deepen.
Details become vivid.
You start noticing what you never saw before.
And in that space — new country, new culture, new people —
I learned something important:
sometimes you only recognize your strengths
when others reflect them back to you.
That’s when I finally understood:
my nose isn’t just sensitivity.
It’s a gift.
And it became the foundation of Verba.
